The short version
Everything the app knows is bundled inside it before you install it. It never sends anything anywhere. There is no server holding your data, and no third party to share it with.
What stays on your device
Saved colours and palettes
Anything you save is written to a local database on your iPhone. It is not sent anywhere and is not synced to any account. If you back up your iPhone, Apple handles that backup under Apple’s terms and we have no access to it. Deleting the app deletes what you saved.
Settings
Your choices about background, kana orthography and English naming are stored in the app’s own preferences on the device.
Photographs
The photograph feature uses Apple’s standard picker, which runs outside the app. Furukara is therefore never granted access to your photo library and never asks for that permission. It receives only the one image you hand it. That image is read on the device to extract its colours, is kept only while you are looking at the result, and is never copied off the phone.
Region
The app reads the region setting on your device so that the seasonal colours run in the right direction for your hemisphere. Region is a preference you choose in iOS, and reading it tells the app nothing about where you are. Furukara does not use location services and never asks for location permission.
What the app never collects
It asks for no name, no email address and no account. It contains no analytics, no event logging and no crash reporting of our own. It reads no advertising identifier and sets no cookie. It never touches your contacts, calendars, microphone or camera. Since none of this is collected, none of it can be sold or shared.
While the app is in beta
Furukara is distributed for testing through Apple’s TestFlight, which is Apple’s service and is covered by Apple’s Privacy Policy. If you join the beta, Apple tells us the email address you used to accept the invitation and shows us crash logs, along with any feedback you choose to send and any screenshot you attach to it. We read those to fix the app. Testers are not added to a mailing list, and leaving the beta ends this.
Children
Furukara is a colour reference and is suitable for any age. It collects no personal information from anyone, including children.
Changes
A revised policy will be posted here with a new date below. If a future version of the app ever collects anything, that will be written here before it ships.
